Second Harvest hosts an annual Empty Bowls: Hunger in Our Neighborhood in the Fall at the Food Bank warehouse. The event, which includes an informal meal, a silent auction, and live music, is held to raise funds and awareness for the Food Bank and its mission to end hunger in Northeast Pennsylvania.
Empty Bowls features a buffet dinner of three varieties of chili, chicken pot pie, salad, and an assortment of breads and desserts prepared by volunteer staff of the Sodexo Food Service Group. Take-home quarts of chili are available for purchase after the meal. During the meal, guests have the opportunity to place bids in a silent auction of decorative bowls donated by local artists and patrons as well as a number of gift bowls that feature hundreds of dollars in donated goods, services, and gift certificates from area retailers.
All proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
